How to practice more effectively the examples from the chapter at the drum set. Independence, coordination, and syncopation exercises with the clave, the cáscara, and the stick control exercises in different subdivisions.

PART 2: A SONGO JOURNEY
Dafnis demonstrates a series of Songo variations. Starting with the original variations from ‘Changuito’ adding the clave, the cáscara, and the cowbell pattern. Dafnis also demonstrates a more personal approach to this style of drumming; he calls it ‘Dafnisongo’.

RHYTHMIC BIOGRAPHY
Dafnis Prieto presents a series of rhythms that were personally significant as he developed as a drummer in Cuba and throughout his career, including carnival, guaguancó, danzón, and others. In an effort to build knowledge of tradition while also encouraging creativity, he explains these rhythms as well as ways to develop them into other possibilities. The class ends with an open session where Dafnis takes questions and comments from participants.
